20 March 2017
On 16 March 2017, the UCL Law Society attended the LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards Ceremony at Painters’ Hall, London
The UCL Law Society was shortlisted from over 40 undergraduate and graduate law societies, and for the first time nominated in two categories: ‘Best Law Society Overall’ and ‘Best Society for Aspiring Barristers’.
Godwin Tan Gelun, LLB student and President of the UCL Law Society, said:
‘I am glad that the UCL Law Society was once again recognised for our comprehensive and engaging calendar of events. Throughout this year, we organised a range of career events, social events, overseas and pro bono activities and sport matches. It has been one of the busiest years in the Society’s history, and the nominations affirm the hard work of my committee and will hopefully inspire the incoming committee to keep up the good work.’
Shem Sheikh, LLB student and the Bar Careers Secretary of the UCL Law Society, said:
‘I am delighted that we were nominated for the award of ‘Best Society for Aspiring Barristers’. This academic year has seen our established and extremely successful Bar Careers Programme continue to expand, with more UCL Laws students exploring and learning about pursuing a career at the Bar. From weekly Monday night career events focussing on different practice areas, to Inns dinners, visits to Chambers and the annual Barristers’ Cocktail Party, the programme has been diverse and attracted many. I must thank Godwin Tan Gelun (President of the UCL Law Society) and my fellow committee members for their support with the Bar Careers Programme, and with the introduction of even more new events next year look forward to furthering our success in the future.’
