UCL Laws celebrates scaffolding removal at Bentham House as redevelopment continues
20 June 2017
Professor Dame Hazel Genn, Dean of UCL Laws, was delighted to remove the first part of the scaffolding of Bentham House as the redevelopment reaches another key milestone
With the removal of the first piece of the scaffold, the new frontage of the Endsleigh Street view of Bentham House has finally become visible to the public. This also allows the five-storey glass atrium at the rear of the building to see daylight for the first time. The new frontage and atrium represent key deliverables in UCL’s ambitious redevelopment plans for Bentham House, home to UCL Laws since 1964.
The redevelopment of Bentham House is part of a two year, £24 million re-development to create additional space, improve accessibility and integrate all existing parts of the Faculty, while maintaining and protecting UCL Laws’ beloved home for the future. Staff and students are due to return to Bentham House in late 2017.
Transforming UCL
The redevelopment of Bentham House has been delivered by UCL Estates as part of Transforming UCL, the largest capital programme in the university’s history.
Transforming UCL will see substantial investment of over £1.2 billion over a 10-year period to refurbish and develop some of UCL’s most iconic buildings whilst also bringing forward new world class buildings. Together these will enable and support the University’s continued growth.
