Mr Justice Laddie and his intellectual property cases:
Of millefeuilles and a fish called Elvis

with Professor David Vaver (Osgoode Hall Law School & University of Oxford (Emeritus))
Chaired by Professor Sir Robin Jacob (UCL)

Wednesday 22 June 2022 at 6pm
at UCL and Live Streamed

About the talk

Sir Hugh Laddie has contributed enormously to the development of intellectual property law in the UK and beyond, through the books he co-authored, his extrajudicial lectures and writings, his conference appearances, and of course the cases which he judged and appeared in. While Sir Hugh’s books and writings are easily accessible, the corpus of his case law is less so, being scattered over more than three decades of law reports since the 1970s. This lecture considers a selection of Sir Hugh’s cases, some familiar to IP aficionados, some perhaps less so, to assess the continuing impact of his work at the bar and bench in the field to which he devoted himself.

About the speaker

David Vaver was the first holder of the chair in Intellectual Property & Information Technology Law in the University of Oxford, where he also directed the Oxford IP Research Centre (1998-2007). He is currently Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and member of the Order of Canada in recognition of his IP work.
