About this Lecture

The speaker will share her reflections on the practice of public international law as a government legal advisor in a fireside chat format. The dialogue will address the different facets, opportunities and challenges of the role, juxtaposed against contemporary evolving developments in international law and practice and an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape

About the Speaker

Danielle Yeow is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore where she leads the climate change law and policy team. Her research interests relate to the interaction between climate change and other disciplines such as trade and investment, human rights, business and financial strategies and international security. Danielle is concurrently a Visiting Researcher at the Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Law, National University of Singapore and a senior advisor at a boutique strategic consulting firm.

Danielle has over 25 years of public sector experience in Singapore, notably as a public international law practitioner. She was most recently the Deputy Director-General at the International Affairs Division of the Singapore Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC/IAD) where she oversaw the practice teams for trade and investment, international environment and climate change, international security (including international cyber norms), sanctions and compliance. This includes advice and representation at international negotiations and meetings, as well as advice on and representation in dispute matters. Danielle was lead counsel for Singapore in multiple negotiations including as lead counsel in the TPP and CPTPP negotiations, Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement. Danielle also served as an elected alternate member of the implementation and compliance committee that is mandated to promote compliance and facilitate the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
