About the Seminar
Facebook’s intention to launch its stablecoin cryptocurrency, Libra, has prompted an extraordinary regulatory response. But irrespective of whether Libra is issued, cash in in decline, the world of money is changing, and central bank digital currencies will most likely be issued in the next few years by credible governments. This seminar explores what all this means, and where we are going.
About the Speakers
Professor Ross H Buckley is the KPMG Law -- King & Wood Mallesons Professor of Disruptive Innovation at UNSW Sydney. He research focus is FinTech, RegTech, blockchain and digital finance. He chairs the Digital Finance Advisory Panel of ASIC, consults regularly to the Asian Development Bank, and has advised governments departments in ten other nations, including the U.S. He has twice been a Fulbright Scholar, at Yale and Duke.
Prof. Dr. Zetzsche, LL.M., is Professor of Financial Law at the University of Luxembourg where he holds the ADA Chair in Financial Law (inclusive finance) since March 2016. Professor Zetzsche is also one of the Directors of the Center for Business & Corporate Law at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.
Prof. Zetzsche has advised, inter alia, the Financial Stability Board, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Securities & Market Authority, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the German Secretary of Justice, the German Secretary of Finance, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion as well as the various national governments on FinTech and RegTech, financial / banking law, shareholder rights, corporate governance, securities and investment law as well as financial inclusion. He also acts as independent board member for regulated investment companies, with a focus on FinTech, cross-border private equity and venture capital as well as a regulated family office. Since February 2019 he is a member of ESMA’s standing Consultative Working Group on financial innovations.
Prof. Zetzsche is the author of more than 200 publications, and his key publications in the FinTech domain include work on Distributed Ledger Technology / Blockchain liability, digital identity, regulatory sandboxes and regulation of innovation, data-driven finance, RegTech, openbanking/payment systems, algorithms and corporate governance, crowdfunding, Initial Coin Offerings, Stablecoins and central-bank linked cryptocurrencies.
