62 IOE researchers are in the top 2% of scientists in the world
24 October 2023
The 62 current and past IOE academics feature in Elsevier and Stanford University’s 2023 list of the world’s most-cited scholars of their fields, demonstrating the reach and impact of research taking place within IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society.
Earlier this month Elsevier and Stanford University released the most recent data on the academics who are most frequently referenced in the work of other scholars across the last year as well as throughout their career history.
This data ranks the top 100,000 names from the more than 8 million scientists considered to be active worldwide, taking into account 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
IOE researchers who appear in the list specialise in a range of subfields including education, sociology, demography, linguistics, psychology, gender studies, public health and policy and more.
Of the 62 IOE scientists named, the top-cited individuals of their respective field are:
- Communication & Textual Studies: Professor Li Wei (subfield 1: Languages & Linguistics)
- Clinical medicine: Professor Praveetha Patalay (subfield 1: Developmental & Child Psychology)
- Economics & Business: Professor Francis Green (subfield 1: Economics)
- Psychology & Cognitive Sciences: Professor David M Frost (subfield 1: Social Psychology)
- Public Health & Health Services: Professor Ann Oakley (subfield 1: Public Health)
- Social Sciences: Professor Stephen Ball (subfield 1: Education)
Professor Li Wei, IOE Director and Dean, said:
“I’m proud to see so many colleagues standing out as leaders of knowledge generation on the global stage. Measures such as these make this faculty’s position as an intellectual powerhouse all the more tangible, but for me this recognition exemplifies our enduring commitment to conducting impactful research that makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
