The UCL Centre for Educational Leadership (CEL) at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, is the UK’s largest university-based centre for research, teaching, development and innovation in educational leadership.

The co-produced programme is a first for the World Education Summit, which reaches more than 50,000 teachers and school leaders worldwide. During the Summit, CEL academics, Programme Leaders and invited speakers will present their latest research and practice to thousands of teachers and school leaders around the globe.

UCL Programme Director, Jonathan Dale, said: “We are excited to be taking this learning and sharing it with teachers, leaders and policy makers worldwide to impact on the lives of young people across the globe. We are also delighted to be partnering with the Summit to make sure our students have access to this vital content.”

Professor Qing Gu, Director of CEL, will speak about her research on schools as enabling spaces to improve learning and health outcomes in rural South Africa alongside Professor Liesel Ebersöhn (University of Pretoria).

Mark Quinn, a Content Lead for the UCL Early Career Teacher Development Programme and co-presenter of the ECF Staffroom podcast series, will share perspectives on new teacher development: the paradigm shift in mentoring in early teacher development.

Professor Louise Stoll will be exploring creative leadership for schools as learning organisations, while Greg Ross and Spanish collaborators Núria Vives-Font and Dr Anna Jolonch will reflect on leadership for learning: powerful professional development for school leaders in Spain.

Dr David Godfrey will share his thinking about the professional development of school leaders, particularly through the medium of school-to-school peer review.

Dr Karen Edge will discuss her research with Professor Sharon Kruse (Washington State University - Vancouver) on organisational exhaustion: tackling burnout from a whole-school perspective.

Professor Kathryn Riley will ask ‘What’s your Model of Leadership? Does it work – and does it matter?’. Former Centre director, Vivienne Porritt OBE, will end the day reflecting on deliberate disruption: issues of gender and race.

Anne-Marie Duguid, co-creator of WES, said: “It is a pleasure to partner with such a high-ranking university, an incredible opportunity for teachers and leaders globally – the perfect mixture of academia and grounded school-based practice.”

Stephen Cox, CEO of Osiris Educational and Founder of WES, said: “WES is designed to be the place where educators from all over the world can come together. We are delighted to partner with UCL and bring their passion and authority to make this the biggest education summit on the planet.”

CEL’s curated leadership day takes place on WES’ Paradigm Shifters stage on Tuesday 21 March 2023. This year, past and present CEL participants, facilitators or partners, including participants of UCL’s National Professional Qualifications and Early Career Framework (ECF) mentors, and IOE staff and students, can claim free attendance and access to high quality resources for a year following the Summit.
