IOE. For Life. Celebrating 120 years of excellence.

I am delighted to launch IOE’s year of celebrations to mark our 120th anniversary and our record of excellence, collaboration and impact.
I recently had the opportunity to show Dr Michael Spence, our President and Provost at UCL, around the Faculty, and to talk to him about the unique nature of our work, our legacy, our plans for the anniversary, and our aspirations for the future.
Throughout 2022, we will be delving into the history of our work in education, culture, psychology, technology and social sciences, with explorations of how each decade of our existence has reflected and contributed to changes in individuals’ lives and society on a global scale. We plan to open up our history and our work through exhibitions, events, videos and podcasts from across our departments – each one an opportunity to get more involved with a community that has always solved problems through collaboration and forward-thinking. Most importantly, we want to celebrate all our community’s contributions to IOE’s impact on the world.

I look forward to our future as UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society as our staff, students, alumni and partners work to transform people’s lives and the world around them. This has been and will continue to be our most important endeavour across all IOE’s activities, and we have never been better positioned to rise to the challenges or further the opportunities that lie ahead.
