Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy studentship available

27 February 2018

Alumni are invited to apply for a full-time funded PhD studentship starting October 2018.

Person reading

The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy was founded in September 2017 in the Department of Learning and Leadership at the UCL Institute of Education, with the core aim to undertake research into primary and early years pedagogy which has a positive impact on education practice and on children's learning (age 0-11 years). The Centre is directed by Professor Dominic Wyse (Founding Director) and Dr Rosie Flewitt (Co-Director).

The Centre is now offering a full-time PhD studentship to commence in October 2018, that will develop an original contribution to primary pedagogy, or primary and early years pedagogy. Engagement with the work of teachers and their pupils will be a key feature of the research. The successful applicant will demonstrate in a research proposal of a maximum of 2,000 words, and at interview, the original contribution that their proposed research could make to research in pedagogy. Mixed methods designs that include rigorous quantitative elements are welcomed, as are high calibre qualitative studies.

The studentship will cover full tuition fees and a maintenance allowance for 3 years. The studentship is available from October 2018. Candidates will be expected to finish their programme of study at the latest by September 2022.

The successful candidate may be required to undertake the research proposed at interview (with modifications) or be required to undertake different research as proposed by the co-directors of the centre.
