The role of research in developing government policy
Joseph Mintz presents his experience emerging from his secondment into the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) in their research and evaluation division.

Joseph will discuss the research he undertook on careers guidance, including careers guidance in specialist settings, which involved working closely with His Majesty's Inspectors (HMIs), Ofsted policy staff and senior leaders at Ofsted and the Department for Education.
Based on his experience, the seminar will consider differences (and similarities) in perspectives on research and evidence between government and academia. The seminar will also invite discussion on how academia can (or cannot) use its research function, outputs and relationships to influence government policy.
This online event will be particularly useful for researchers and policymakers.
