Course content and structure

This course is tailored for aspiring filmmakers, producers, marketing professionals, and anyone interested in the multifaceted world of film/TV production and promotion. The participants will gain practical insights and develop a solid understanding of the film industry landscape, culminating in the opportunity to create and present comprehensive media PR & Marketing plans for the production and promotion of a film or TV series. 

Day 1: Introduction to the Film Industry Landscape

We explore the market trends, niche audiences, and technological advancements shaping the industry today. Learn how to craft a compelling digital presence for films from the ground up, leveraging outside stakeholders such as brands, partnerships, and non-profits to maximise promotion and outreach. 

Day 2: PR and Digital Film Promotion

On the second day we’ll focus on gaining invaluable insights into the critical role of public relations in film marketing, particularly during the production phase, where social and digital platforms play a pivotal role. Learn how to plan and produce compelling marketing content tailored to engage audiences effectively. Explore crisis management techniques and develop skills to address negative publicity online and learn how to collaborate with key opinion leaders and journalists. 

Day 3: Longtail Distribution Strategies

This session delves into the indispensable role of social media throughout every stage of film promotion, from inception to distribution and beyond. We explore strategies for leveraging social platforms effectively, ensuring maximum reach and engagement for your projects. Learn how to collaborate with influencers to amplify your message and broaden your audience base. Discover the significance of film festivals as crucial hubs for promotion and marketing, and gain insights into maximizing opportunities by networking with brands, event management companies, and industry experts.

Day 4: Awards Strategy and Recognition

We investigate the pivotal role of awards in the film industry by gaining insights into crafting a coherent and comprehensive awards strategy tailored to various audiences, including business-to-business (B2B), business-to-consumer (B2C), and consumer-to-consumer (C2C) approaches. We analyse the diverse platforms and channels available for niche and independent films to garner recognition and acclaim and how to bridge and collaborate on those campaigns with digital distribution platforms.

Day 5: Final Project

This course culminates with the students bringing their creative visions to fruition by developing and presenting comprehensive plans for the production and promotion of their chosen film, TV series projects etc. Through presentations and feedback sessions, participants refine their strategies and receive valuable insights from peers and instructors.
