Professor Deborah Shaw (she/her/hers) examines the way the concepts of debate and free speech have been weaponised in large parts of the British media, and will consider contrasting positions taken by trans-inclusive and trans-exclusionary feminists.

She contrasts the relentless attacks in the right-wing news media on trans women in particular with new and more ethical representation of trans people on streaming platforms (with reference to Sense8, Sex Education, Pose and Heartstopper).

This event will be particularly useful for LGBTQ+ staff, students, visitors and allies, and any/all those interested in trans-inclusive non-LGBTQ+ persons.

Please note this is a hybrid event and can be joined either in-person or online.
