Does the teacher enjoy? Thinking through educational enjoyment with Lacan
Join this event to hear Nick Stock draw on Laconian theory to explore the structure of education teachers find themselves in.
Philosophical questions about teachers often ask what teachers are for or perhaps, how they can improve. But amidst a teacher recruitment shortfall, waves of teacher strikes, a disillusioned workforce, and a rising sense of authoritarianism, can a teacher can enjoy “being” a teacher.
In this seminar, Nick will consider the teacher as a subject in the education structure and pose questions concerning educational enjoyment, or jouissance.
This in-person event will be particularly useful for philosophers of education, practicing teachers and those interested in Lacanian psychoanalysis.
