VIRTUAL EVENT: Reimagining education post-COVID
This webinar will discuss the preliminary findings of the International Literacy Centre research project 'A duty of care and a duty to teach' funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Rapid Response to COVID.

The research was conducted by Professor Gemma Moss (Principal Investigator) and Dr Alice Bradbury, Dr Sam Duncan, Dr Sinead Harmey and Dr Rachael Levy (Co-investigators).
The study set out to document primary schools' responses to the COVID crisis in England. Survey responses and interviews captured teachers' perspectives, both during lockdown and as schools reopened.
These were analysed alongside the policy decisions taken by the government over the same time frame, press coverage and responses from within the research community.
The data has highlighted deep fractures in the way the education system runs in England. It has shown the exceptionally high burdens that material poverty imposes on families, and how little the system as it stands can take account of this or respond appropriately to it.
This discussion will highlight the urgency for research to both name and address the fundamental problems in the system, offering ways out for teachers, families, and communities, so that we do end up with a more resilient and socially just education system. That would be a fitting outcome from the pandemic.
