IOE Centenary Master's Scholarships

Eligibility

What are the eligibility criteria?

In order to apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships, candidates should:

  • Be domiciled in an eligible low or lower-middle income country according to the World Bank classification
  • Have an official unconditional offer letter to study a full time Master's degree at IOE (letter issued by UCL Admissions)
  • Not have studied or lived in the UK before

Please note that these scholarships are not available for the MA/MSc Educational Neuroscience or for any online courses.

What countries are eligible for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships?

The Centenary Master’s Scholarships are available for students who are domiciled in low or lower-middle income countries according to the World Bank classification. The full list of eligible countries for the 2024-25 Centenary Master’s Scholarships is:

Can students from eligible countries living in the UK apply?

No, only candidates who are permanently domiciled in an eligible country can apply for these scholarships.

Can I apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships if I want to study part-time?

No, these scholarships are only offered for full time study in London. They are not available for online or part-time study.

Can I apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships if I have already started my course at IOE?

No, these scholarships are only available for students who wish to start their studies in October 2024.

Can I apply to the Centenary Master’s Scholarships if I have a conditional offer of admission?

No, you can only apply for these scholarships if you have received an official unconditional offer letter issued by UCL admissions.

Can I apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships if I have received an unconditional offer to study in another department at UCL?

No, the Centenary Master’s Scholarships are only available for students who wish to study at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. Please check other scholarships available at UCL in the UCL Scholarships website.

Can I apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships if I have received an offer to study in another UK university?

No, the Centenary Master’s Scholarships are only available for students who wish to study at IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. If you have received an offer to study in another university, please contact that university directly.

How do I get an unconditional offer of admission on an eligible IOE Master’s programme?

The full list of Master’s degrees is available on our course website. Once you have found a suitable programme, click on the Apply Now button on the programme page to make your application. Please note that it can take up to 8 weeks to get an application processed by our admissions department.

When must I submit my application to a Master’s programme?

You should submit your programme application as soon as possible once applications open in November 2023. You can only apply for the scholarships once you have submitted a programme application and you have received an official unconditional offer to study the programme.

Do I have to pay the Master’s programme application fee?

Yes, we are not able to waive programme application fees.

Applying to Centenary Master’s Scholarship

How do I apply for the Centenary Master’s scholarship?

Once you receive your unconditional offer letter, you can complete and submit the online scholarship application.

When do the Centenary Master’s Scholarship application open?

Applications for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships will open on 16 January 2024.

Is there a deadline for applying?

Yes, the deadline to apply for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships is at 23:55 (BST) on Friday 3 May 2024.

How are candidates selected?

The Selection Panel for the Centenary Master’s Scholarships is formed by a group of IOE academics, professional services and representatives from International Students House.

How soon after applying will I find out the outcome?

We aim to let all candidates who have submitted an application for the scholarship know the results by Friday 14 June 2024.

Will I receive an email even if I am not selected for the scholarship?

Yes, all candidates who have submitted an application for the scholarship will receive an email with the results by Friday 14 June 2024.

What does the Centenary Master’s Scholarship cover?

The Centenary Master’s Scholarship covers tuition fees and accommodation in a single room (shared bathroom) at International Students House

Does the Centenary Master’s Scholarship offer a stipend?

No, the Centenary Master’s Scholarship only covers tuition fees and accommodation in a single room (shared bathroom) at International Students House. Candidates who have been awarded the scholarship will have to find other sources of funding to cover any other expenditure. Please see the UCL website for details about other costs of studying at UCL.

Will the Centenary Master’s Scholarship also support my family to come to the UK while I am studying at UCL?

No, the scholarship only covers tuition fees and accommodation in a single room (shared bathroom) at International Students House. It may be possible for candidates to bring their families to the UK but candidates will be responsible for covering any costs associated with their families stay in the UK.

Will the fees and accommodation costs be paid directly to me?

No, the Centenary Master’s Scholarship is not a cash award. Candidates will not receive any funds paid directly to them.

Can I accept the Centenary Master’s Scholarship in addition to other UCL awards?

No, you will not be able to accept any other UCL awards if you have been awarded the Centenary Master’s Scholarship.


IOE - Clarke Scholarships

Eligibility

What are the eligibility criteria?

In order to apply for the Clarke Scholarships, candidates should:

  • Be practicing school teachers
  • Be nationals and residents in South Africa
  • Have an unconditional offer to study a campus based Masters’ degree at IOE.

Please note that these scholarships are not available for the MA/MSc Educational Neuroscience or for online or part-time courses.

What countries are eligible for the Clarke Scholarships?

The Clarke Scholarships are only available for candidates from South Africa. 

Why are the Clarke Scholarships only available for candidates from South Africa?

The Clarke Scholarships are possible due to a donation from the family of IOE’s previous Director Sir Fred Clarke. The donation is restricted to provide scholarships for teachers from South Africa.

Can students from South Africa living in the UK apply?

No, only candidates who are permanently domiciled in South Africa can apply for these scholarships.

Can I apply for the Clarke Scholarships if I want to study part-time?

No, these scholarships are only offered for full time study in London. They are not available for online or part-time study.

What Master’s programmes are eligible for the Clarke Scholarships?

Scholarship value

What does the Clarke Scholarship cover?

The Clarke Scholarship covers return flights to London, tuition fees and an annual stipend of £20,767 paid in monthly instalments (approx £1730 per month). 

Does the Clarke Scholarship cover accommodation in London?

Candidates who are awarded the Clarke Scholarship will receive a stipend of £1730 per month. This stipend should be used to pay for accommodation and subsistence in London. Candidates are responsible for finding and booking their own accommodation.

If I’m awarded the Clarke Scholarship, when will I receive the stipend?

We will be able to start paying the stipend once you have arrived in the UK and have opened a UK bank account.

Will the Clarke Scholarship also support my family to come to the UK while I am studying at UCL?
