CST Provision

Since 2018, CST has been offered in Wisdom Center of Yonghe Cardinal Tien Hospital, Taiwan. We welcome older adults with mild cognitive impairment, mild dementia and moderate dementia to participate in CST courses. Regarding the CST experience, please refer to our video.

CST is also offered at three veteran homes in Northern Taiwant and at the Age Day Care Centerof Taipei Veterans General Hospitlal.

CST Research Projects

A pilot CST study was performed for eighteen older adults with dementia from the local community in Taiwan in 2018. The formal longitudinal CST intervention research is planned to run from 2019 - 2020.

The CST-TVA project (Effectiveness of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy with Cultural Adaptations for Taiwanese Veterans with Dementia) was approved by the institutional review board of Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 2017 to 2018 (IRB-TPEVGH approved number : 2017-04-004B). This project involved two parts : 

  1. Development of Culturally Adapted Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for Taiwanese Veterans with Dementia [CST-TVA]；
  2. Investigating the effectiveness of CST-TVA.

A quasi-experimental design with single-blind trial was conducted. The findings indicated that CST-TVA significantly improved cognition, depression, BPSD and caregiver distress respectively than control group. Future plans will be to publish in SCI/SSCI journals and establish a Taiwanese manual of the cognitive stimulation activities.

Translation of the CST Manual

A Taiwan version of the CST Manual 'Making a Difference' will be translated and provided by 2019.

Publications

Ting-Jung Hsu has presented on CST in Taiwan at national and international conferences. Two journal publications are currently under development:

  1. Effectiveness of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy with Cultural Adaptations for Taiwanese Veterans with Dementia [CST-TVA].
  2. Development of Culturally Adapted Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for Taiwanese Veterans with Dementia [CST-TVA].
