Provision of CST

Contact Dr. Arshad for information on provision of group and individual CST in Pakistan.

Research projects

Dr. Arshad examined the effectiveness of CST in improving cognitive functioning and quality of life of individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). This work comprises their PhD thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar and Dr. Iram Fatima. Participants with MCI were recruited and randomly assigned to treatment and wait–list control groups. CST was proven effective for the treatment of MCI, as improvements in both domains of cognitive functioning and quality of life were evident.

Future projects

  • Further studies will be conducted throughout Pakistan to estimate the efficacy of CST for MCI. Studies will also be conducted to explore the effectiveness of CST for other segments of the population
  • Comparative studies will be conducted by comparing the efficacy of CST with other treatments of MCI.
  • Provision of CST will be carried out by postgraduate and PhD researchers.
  • All research will be conducted on both community-dwelling older individuals and older individuals living in institutionalised settings.
  • Dr Ashad. is also exploring adding techniques related to stress-handling to CST, as stress was found to be a significant barrier in the maintenance of cognitive functioning among older adults in Pakistan.
