The UCL Centre for Capitalism Studies (CCS) is a world-leading centre for critical interdisciplinary research into the past, present, and future of capitalism. It brings together UCL faculty and students studying how markets, finance and economic institutions shape our everyday life, structure societies’ capacity to change, and are contested and remade across time and space.

At the CCS launch event on Friday 20th October 2023, 200 people from universities, industry and culture institutions filled two vast UCL rooms to hear from leading thinkers, including renowned artist Hito Steyerl, the pre-eminent economist Prof Ha-Joon Chang and journalist Grace Blakeley, and debated the question: **Why we need to study capitalism today?**

The CCS Director, Dr Aris Komporozos-Athanasiou said: "CCS is the first centre of its kind in the UK and Europe. Committed to drawing synergies from a wide range of disciplines spanning the arts, humanities and social sciences into the study of capitalism, CCS aims to become a key agent of influence in global intellectual and economic policy debates. Stay tuned as we develop these vital discussions into an exciting new research agenda!
