Further details on the full workshop series will be released soon. If you are interested in taking part in a focus group discussion please get in touch with Ros Greiner (rosamund.greiner.18@ucl.ac.uk).

CRITICAL PEDAGOGIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

We are a group of UCL PhD students, and in partnership with the UCL Gender and Feminism Research Network (GFRN) we are developing a series of interactive workshops about critical and liberatory approaches to teaching and learning in higher education. These sessions will be aimed at post-graduate researchers and early-career researchers (PGRs and ECRs) who teach at UCL, and will address ideas like decolonising the curriculum, creating an anti-racist classroom, feminist and queer pedagogies, and developing access-led approaches to education.

PARTICIPATE IN A FOCUS GROUP

The workshop content will be tailored to the current concerns, baseline knowledge, and interests of UCL PGRs and ECRs. We hope this will enable participants to get the most out of attending and participating in the sessions. To help us develop workshop content in this way, we are holding a series of online focus groups. We want to hear about your teaching experiences; training, support, and development opportunities you have received around teaching and learning in higher education; challenges you have faced in teaching or concerns you have about teaching in the future; and existing knowledge and experience of critical pedagogies and liberatory educational practices.

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA – NO EXPERTISE NEEDED!

You must be a doctoral student, recent PhD graduate or early career researcher at UCL, and have an interest in critical/ liberatory pedagogies (experience and extensive knowledge are not required!).

Ideally you will have some teaching experience (e.g., teaching assistant, tutor, seminar lead, module lead, guest lecturer) and/ or have plans to teach over the coming year; have taken some core training relating to teaching and learning in higher education (such as the Gateway session or Teaching Associate Program offered by the UCL Arena centre); and be interested in attending the workshop series in spring/ summer 2023.

INTERESTED IN TAKING PART?

Participants will receive a £10 Love2Shop voucher as thanks for giving their time and sharing their experiences, and will receive a personal invite to participate in the workshops.

The focus groups will be held in February 2023, and the exact date and time will be confirmed based on the availability of the participants. The discussion will last up to one hour, and will be facilitated by a PhD student and a PGT research assistant. They will be held online using Zoom, and they will be recorded. If you are interested in participating, please contact Ros Greiner at rosamund.greiner.18@ucl.ac.uk.
