IAS job alert: Research Fellow in Indigenous Ecologies and Environmental Crisis x 2

1 September 2022

UCL Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) and UCL Anthropocene will jointly convene a Research Cluster in 2022-3 to both support and explore the contribution of Indigenous ecologies to debates about environmental problems and crises.

Two early-career Research Fellow working on their own research projects will be at the heart of the interdisciplinary Research Cluster, which will also involve colleagues from various UCL departments. The two Research Fellows will be invited to drive the agenda, extending relevant work that has been done to date at UCL. The key duties will be:

  • To carry out a research project relevant to the Research Cluster on Indigenous Ecologies and Environmental Crisis and to produce the specified outputs (or equivalent alternatives agreed with the Director of the IAS)
  • To collaborate with colleagues in the Research Cluster, the IAS and the wider UCL community to foster synergies with other relevant work at UCL and other universities.
  • To collaborate with partners in Indigenous peoples’ communities, nations, organisations and networks (as appropriate) to co-produce the research.
  • To work on developing publications from their doctoral research and/or a post-doctoral project, with the help of their IAS mentor.

We are looking to appoint two Research Fellows who can demonstrate research-based knowledge of languages, ideas and/or practices of Indigenous peoples anywhere. We welcome applications from scholars who self-identify as Indigenous people and who have published in languages other than English. The contested term “Indigenous” is used here as a shorthand for the variety of terms preferred in different regions: first peoples, aboriginal peoples, First Nations, Native Americans, pueblos originarios and others elsewhere.
