Join us for a roundtable discussion on the benefits and challenges of conducting queer oral history research, featuring topics such as intimacies and desire, subjectivity and social space, and the intersection of sexual health and race. Dr Rebecca Jennings is Associate Professor in Modern Gender History at UCL and author of the forthcoming book Lesbian Intimacies: Practices of Intimacy in Britain and Australia, 1945-2010.
Dr Amy Tooth Murphy, Senior Lecturer in Oral History at Royal Holloway, co-editor of the forthcoming book Queering Desire: Lesbians, Gender and Subjectivity, and founding member of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group.
Dr Justin Bengry, Convenor of the MA Queer History and Director of the Centre for Queer History at Goldsmiths, and co-editor of the 2022 book Locating Queer Histories: Places and Traces across the UK.
Dr George Severs, a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Geneva Graduate Institute in Switzerland, is working on a history of sexual health and race. His first book, HIV/AIDS activism in England, c. 1982-1997, will be published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2024. George is also Secretary of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group.
