The meticulous reprint of the two volumes of Cratander’s edition, with a separate introduction by Gesine Manuwald (UCL) and Cédric Scheidegger Laemmle (Cambridge), allows the reader to experience historic book culture first-hand. The book, printed in Italy by L’Artistica Savigliano, under the auspices of the Société Internationale des Amis de Cicéron, is published by Schwabe. The publication project was realized with the generous support of the Patrum Lumen Sustine Foundation of Basel (PLuS).
There will be short presentations, followed by Q&A and a drinks reception. The event will be chaired by Dr Elizabeth McKnight (UCL).
Programme:
Gesine Manuwald (UCL): Introduction
Lucy Nicholas (Warburg): Sixteenth-century Ciceronianism – Cratander’s edition in context
Ermanno Malaspina (President of the PLuS Foundation): The idea behind the project (online)
Cédric Scheidegger Lämmle (Cambridge): Cratander’s Cicero – distinctive features
Harald Liehr (Schwabe Verlag, Basel): The publisher’s view (online)
At the reception, there will be an opportunity for further discussion and to register for buying a copy of the full reproduction.
