The current exhibition “Beyond the Ghetto. Inside&Out” guides visitors through four centuries of Italian Jewish history (1516-1914), with a focus on connections and social, cultural, economic relations between Jews and their Christian neighbours. It is the latest addition to a series of exhibitions that the Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS, Ferrara, Italy) has sponsored and hosted to honour its official mission, which is to present Italian Jewish history to a wider public.

Carlotta Ferrara degli Uberti (University of Pisa) and Sharon Reichel (MEIS), two of the curators, will discuss with Michael Berkowitz (UCL) the characteristics of the exhibition and the methodological and practical challenges that they encountered in the planning phase.
