Join us for the next UCL African Studies Seminar with Deborah Posel (Professor of Sociology, University of Cape Town).
The principle of 'non-racialism' underpinned the ANC's anti-apartheid struggle, and the transition to a constitutional democracy in South Africa. Indeed the Constitution affirms non-racialism as a foundational value. Yet this is now under attack from student protestors and others who see it as a denial of the abiding realities of race and racial supremacy in the country. This paper revisits the notion of non-racialism and its abiding articulation with a politics of race in South Africa's past and present.
All welcome.
