DIS PhD student Abira Hussein on BBC Radio 4

As part of her doctoral research, Abira Hussein is exploring the role of sound in sharing Somali oral transmissions and connecting diaspora knowledge.

Her sound piece is titled “Fish & Chips” will be out on November 14th 2023 on Shortcuts on BBC Radio 4. She will explore her Somali culture and identity. Through her recorded archives; she will piece together stories, work songs and poetry shared by Somali aunties to reimagine cultures disrupted by colonialism and migration.
