I am a part-time PhD candidate in the Department of Information Studies at UCL, researching the role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO), a statutory role under data protection laws.  My research is exploring the practices of a DPO, considering how different factors within a DPO’s environment influence how the role is delivered, as well as the effect of a DPO’s knowledge and competencies.

I have worked in information governance and data protection for over 20 years and work predominantly with data protection although also spend time working with freedom of information legislation across the UK and records management.  I own and manage my own company, Tkm Consulting, which provides both training and consultancy in all things information governance, including providing DPO as a service.  I also work as part of FYI when working on larger, collaborative projects.

Prior to starting my PhD, I completed an MSc in Education and Training Management from the University of Portsmouth, an MSc in Knowledge Management Systems from South Bank University, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Data Protection and Information Governance from Northumbria University.
