BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, MBCS, FHEA
I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Information Science, teaching modules in Information Systems and use of technology in Information Organisations. I have previously taught modules in Advanced Databases and Development of Information Systems at the Department of Computer Science and Creative Technologies, UWE Bristol.
I have a long-term experience contributing to European and UK research projects, working as a Research Associate and a Research Fellow at the Department of Information Studies, UCL and the Hypermedia Research Unit, USW. I have also worked as a project manager and consortium member of the regional research projects CEWN and Re-DrAW in connection to the Digital Research and Development Fund for the Arts in Wales.
My main research interests are in Information Extraction, Text Analytics, Knowledge-Based Systems and Ontologies, particularly in semantic annotation and metadata enrichment with respect to conceptual reference models, ontologies and knowledge base resources. I have contributed to the cultural heritage data modelling and semantic enrichment aims of the EU Horizon 2020 project CrossCult, whereas in the past I have contributed to the EU FP7 Ariadne Framework researching the multilingual application of Natural Language Processing in archaeological grey literature. I have also developed the Welsh Natural Language Processing Toolkit of the General Architecture for Text Engineering GATE.
I hold a PhD in Semantic Indexing of Archaeological Grey Literature, I am a certified text analyst, a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the British Computing Society (BCS). My research on the semantic indexing of cultural heritage resources has received several awards including the outstanding paper award from the Emerald Literati Network.
