2019-20 pay negotiations

The 2019-20 national pay negotiations have now been concluded and UCL will start implementing UCEA's final offer in the September payroll. The offer is effective from 1 August 2019 and increases from August will also be included in your September pay.

UCL Portico and quad

The national pay offer provides between a 1.8% and 3.55% uplift in base pay:

  • colleagues on salary points 5-16 will see up to 3.55% increase in pay
  • colleagues earning spine point 17 and upwards will see a 1.8% increase in pay
  • in addition all colleagues will receive a 1.8% increase in London Weighting.

The 1.8% base pay increase, plus the automatic service increments that just over half of staff will receive in addition, means the offer constitutes an average UCL pay increase of around 3.3%. 

Annual pay offers for the sector are agreed nationally through the University and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) who represent participating employers in the Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff with trade unions.

We are aware that the trade unions recognised by UCL, who participate in these negotiations, have rejected the offer, however, all parties have agreed that the process has now been concluded. To make sure staff receive this pay increase as quickly as possible we have followed UCEA’s advice to implement the increase.

UCEA has also agreed to further joint work with the unions on important issues including: gender and ethnicity pay gaps in the sector and ‘casual’ working arrangements.
