The Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS)

3 April 2019

The Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS) invites research staff and researchers to input their ideas

Researchers: have your say! The Careers in Research Online Survey (CROS) is back, gathering the anonymous views of all research staff and technicians in UK higher education institutions about their experiences, career aspirations and career development opportunities.

The biannual survey has paved the way in developing an understanding of researcher careers, raising the profile for research staff development and initiating change across the sector. CROS takes around 15 - 20 minutes to complete and is open until the 31st of May.

Benefits to institutions include:

  • Informs policy and practice in researchers’ employment, management and career development
  • Enables measurement of progress over time and confidential comparisons with groups of institutions or national results
  • Collects evidence to support institutional submissions, such as for the European HR Excellence in Research Award, implementation of the Concordat and Athena Swan
  • Gives insight into the research environment element of the Research Excellence Framework
