Research workshop “Abolitionism and post-slavery in Africa” Paris, France, 28 March 2023

Research workshop “Abolitionism and post-slavery in Africa” hosted by the French International Centre for Research on Slavery and Post-slavery (CIRESC), Paris, France, 28 March 2023

At the end of March 2023, CIRESC hosted a research workshop aimed at taking stock of the progress of three major research projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The three projects explore new avenues for understanding abolitionism and post-slavery situations in Africa. The ASEA Project deals with the consequences of slavery in East Africa over the long 20th century. The AFRAB project studies the rise and transformations of abolitionism in Africa over the last two and a half centuries, while SlaveVoices tries to understand abolitions by looking at the experiences and writings of different groups of enslaved persons in the Maghreb and the Mediterranean.
