20 December 2014
UCL History's REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2014 results are very positive. The 'Power' rating, which aims to capture quality across the board, puts the department in fourth place. Overall 82% of our submission was rated 4* ('world-leading') or 3* ('internationally excellent'). Our research environment rating was the best for a History unit (90% 4*) - equal to Oxford and ahead of Cambridge.
On the measure of 4* performance x FTE, UCL has emerged as the second best university in the country for research, ahead of Cambridge and just behind Oxford. On the measure of 4* + 3* x FTE it is ahead of both Oxford and Cambridge, and the best university for research in the United Kingdom.
