This is a general agreement, with History as one of the priority areas. Up to four undergraduate students per year in previous years, numbers to be agreed with Study Abroad. Agreement starts 2016 and runs for 3 years. Two additional places specifically for History are currently under negotiation (June 2016).

Numbers are subject to approval with Study Abroad and also dependent on incoming affiliates on those exchanges (to maintain reciprocity).

We are currently in the process of finalising places at the following (other places may also be opened up to us at Johns Hopkins, Michigan and similar, due to intake of affiliates by History):

WUSTL

Northwestern

There is also a list of exchange agreements held by the Study Abroad team for institutions to which students can apply in UCL-wide open competition.

Topoi Excellence Cluster (Freie Universitaet/Humbolt-Universitaet zu Berlin)

A PhD-student Exchange Agreement has been set up by the Faculty Office (AS/SHS), between our departments and the Freie Universitaet and Humbolt-Universitaet (on behalf of the Topoi Excellence Cluster) zu Berlin. This permits exchange between these institutions of students in their second and later years of MPhil/PhD registration for a term/semester. Berlin students coming to UCL will be permitted to audit, if desired, PGT modules.

If you have any queries about any of the above agreements, please contact the Study Abroad and Affiliates Administrator, Emma Patten.

If you are interested in looking into setting up agreements with a European institution please consider the following

  1. Undergraduate expansion should be discussed with the HwEL Tutor with respect to the UCL History strategy for this programme.
  2. Postgraduate agreements have the complication that UCL History do not send out PGT students therefore agreements should aim to be at PGR level. If you do wish to include PGT this will need checking to ensure we can facilitate provision and also that the reciprocal element can be fulfilled in some way - please contact Emma Patten if you are intending to pursue such an agreement.
