Join us for the launch of Axel Körner's new monograph, America in Italy: The United States in the Political Thought and Imagination of the Risorgimento, 1763-1865 (Princeton UP, 2017). The event will be introduced by Richard Bourke, Professor in the History of Modern Political Thought at Queen Mary, University of London.
Transcending boundaries between intellectual and cultural history, America in Italy is the first book-length examination of the influence of America's political formation on modern Italian political thought. Focusing on Italian political thinkers between the late eighteenth century and the unification of Italy in the 1860s, Körner shows how these writers used America as a sounding board for the critical assessment of societal changes at home.
Axel Körner is Professor of Modern History and Director of the UCL Centre for Transnational History. He works primarily on the intellectual and cultural history of Europe, 1750-2000.
The event is open to everybody, does not require registration and is free to attend. Refreshments are kindly sponsored by Princeton University Press.
