Shuttle bus
Changes in how to get to HereEast
- If you are intending to travel to HereEast and you intend to use the ‘free of charge’ Shuttle Bus service, you will require a digital ticket to journey between HereEast and Stratford Underground or Stratford International stations.
Background
- Since the service launched in 2017, the number of tenants on campus has grown and the uptake in shuttle usage has substantially increased. To better manage the service, the HereEast team will be introducing a new digital ticketing system to ensure that it continues to meet the needs tenants.
- The system will also track journeys and provide better insights into shuttle operations whilst enhancing the passenger experience by gathering data.
How do I use the service?
- The Shuttle Bus will continue to be ‘free of charge to use’ by UCL students, staff, contractors and guests but you will need to be registered to use the service and verify their identity through the HereEast Shuttle App.
- We will be pre-registering all known 2024-25 student cohorts and staff who are based predominately at HereEast, and they will receive email during week commencing 10 February 2025 asking them to register their details and setup an account.
- Once you have confirmed your details you will then be asked to provide a selfie and photo of you UCL ID pass to verify your identity to ensure valid use of the service.
How will the digital ticket work?
- By registering and verifying your identity, you will be able to access a QR code within the App which can then be scanned on boarding the Shuttle Bus which will be your ticket the journey.
- The app will also provide access to real-time shuttle bus tracking and timetable that includes live departure times, as well as a feature showing how busy each shuttle is.
What if I am not normally based at HereEast but use the service?
- Current UCL students that wish to use the service but have not received an email to register, will need to contact their course administrator to ask to be registered.
- Existing UCL staff and contractors should email hereeast-reception@ucl.ac.uk to request to be registered.
I am hosting an event or expecting visitors/guests?
- Guest tickets can be made available by their host, if they are a current UCL member of staff, who will need to advise on dates and expected guest numbers for appropriate arrangements to be made.
- More information on how to do this will follow in due course, in the interim if you are expecting guests and wish to request for tickets to be available please email hereeast-reception@ucl.ac.uk
What happens if I wish to use the service without registering?
- Passengers without an authorised ticket, i.e. non-Here East users, will be required to pay £1.50 per journey (contactless payment).
