PROF Jane Wardle
Biographical
Details:
Jane Wardle read Physiology and Psychology at Oxford,
followed by an MPhil and a PhD in Clinical Psychology
at the Institute of Psychiatry. After being a Lecturer
and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the Institute
of Psychiatry, she became Professor in Clinical Psychology
and Director of the Health Behaviour Unit. This research
unit, funded by Cancer Research UK, moved to UCL in
1996.
Research
Interests:
Professor Wardle's research covers two broad areas of health psychology: i) early detection of cancer and ii)
obesity and food choice, with funding from CR-UK programme grants and project grant support from BBSRC, MRC and BHF.
The early detection work includes studies of public understanding of cancer, the impact of human papillomavirus
testing, and promoting uptake of colorectal cancer screening. In the obesity and food choice area, ongoing studies
include investigations of the relationship between eating style and obesity in children, the behaviour genetics of
eating behaviour, and treatment of obese children.
