Undergraduate Medics

The Undergraduate programme aims to:

  • Provide students with understanding and knowledge of global health, and opportunities to gain experience and develop their interests in the field.
  • Challenge concepts of development, health and ideas of healthcare provision by studying different political, economic, social and health systems globally.
  • Help produce doctors who are able to think critically and are flexible and responsive to patients from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Produce resources for teaching medical students about global health and provide support to other institutions in implementing this teaching.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of training doctors with a global, multicultural perspective on health and healthcare.

Advocacy activities include:

  • Supporting undergraduate and graduate networks, such as Medsin and Alma Mata, campaigning for wider recognition of global health issues
  • Collaboration with UK and overseas institutions involved in developing taught course and on-line teaching material for international health
  • Publishing materials with colleagues in other universities about global health teaching in medical curricula, such as a recent paper in the Lancet
