Meet the team

Our success is driven by a talented and dedicated team working together. Hear from some of our team below:

Judy Bertfield - Senior Philanthropy Manager (Trusts)

"I was struck by applications being encouraged from those seeking part-time working. My role provides me with career progression in a team that embodies a welcoming, open-minded and ambitious approach. I feel thoroughly supported as a working parent, which helps me achieve a work-life balance, and motivates me to get the job done and do it well. Having always worked within charities I am delighted with having transitioned to Higher Education. UCL’s impact on communities and individuals is extraordinary, everyone can be touched by UCL’s life-changing work."

Sonia Abrams - Head of Events

"I have worked at UCL since February 2014 in UCL’s Communications and Marketing Office as an Events Manager and have been part of OVPA since April 2016, when I was seconded to coordinate the IAA Campaign launch events.  The secondment was excellent and I was given a wonderful opportunity to develop, progress and sharpen my event management skills. This included managing large-scale events in London as well as international events. The one-year secondment was extended and I then applied for a permanent position in OVPA as Senior Events Manager (Live Events). During this time I worked on a number of flagship events and developed the IAA Festival into an annual event which now attracts over 3,000 attendees. I was then promoted to Head of Events within OVPA and I am currently enjoying my role. Pivoting from an operational to a strategic role has been made easier by having an amazing team to collaborate with. To help with the transition I have had great support and attended some really good internal and external training.  I’m looking forward to continuing my career at UCL and delivering more sector-leading, engaging advancement events."
