Study geography and data science in an unrivalled way through a wide range of modules taught by multidisciplinary experts.

Key Information

Programme starts

September 2024

Duration

Full time: Three years

Location

London, Bloomsbury

Overview

To answer some of the world's most important social, political and economic policy questions, we need to look at these issues through a geographical lens. This course prepares you to do that by giving you some of the most extensive training in quantitative methods anywhere in the UK. You will graduate with an understanding of social statistics alongside the methods needed to map and analyse geographic data.

Degree structure

In addition to the modules taught in the BA Geography programme, you will study four core research method modules. Taught across four world-leading departments, you will get high-level technical and research training with an interdisciplinary focus.

The first year focuses on the key principles of social inquiry and introduces you to quantitative research methods.

In the second year, you will learn more advanced data analysis techniques as well as approaches to geographic research. You will take core modules on geocomputation and spatial data science as well as several optional modules delivered both within and outside the Department.

Your third year will be devoted to a substantive dissertation project. This major piece of independent research will be supported by modules in quantitative policy analysis, population geography, economic geography and a range of optional modules.

Application and next steps

Please note: You cannot apply directly to this course through UCAS.

Instead, it is possible to transfer to the BA Geography with Social Data Science pathway from BA Geography or BSc Geography. You will need the correct grades (including A-Level Maths) to do this.

When choosing your course, be sure to read the guidelines and entry requirements before submitting your application.
