UCL Geographers in London Marathon and Swimathon

Raising Money

Six members of UCL Geography have been busy over recent months collectively raising thousands of pounds in sponsorship for various charities including St John Ambulance, Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie, and the Terrence Higgins Trust.

Cartographer Miles Irving and post-doc Isabel Bishop ran the hottest London Marathon on record on 22nd April.

Miles and Isabel crossed the start line together (see photograph) and eventually finished just seven minutes apart. Miles had also run the Brighton Marathon only a week earlier, so completing the London course on tired legs was a huge achievement.

Not content with having run 52.4 miles, Miles joined Victoria Bauer, Lucy Roberts and Jennifer Robinson for the Swimathon held at the London Aquatic Centre on 29th April. Together they covered a combined distance of nearly 15km!
