Enhancing Marine protection in Brazil
1 October 2021
Applying Peter Jones’s research
The rationale and findings of Dr Peter Jones’s Marine Protected Area Governance (MPAG) project were the basis of his opening presentation on 11 April at a workshop, Towards Brazil’s National Target 11, organised in Recife, Pernambuco, by Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment and UN Environment.
The meeting was part of a Brazilian initiative to develop a new policy White Paper, Options for enhancing management of marine protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, in collaboration with the UN Environment-World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Cambridge.
Peter’s presentation included recommendations for the new national MPA strategy. In the coming months, he will continue to have input in the drafting of the White Paper.
