Award of second Roger Tomlinson Prize

The second annual Roger Tomlinson Prize was presented to Dr Guy Lansley, (UCL Geography Chorley Institute) on 22 March for his PhD thesis, Big Data: Geodemographics and Representation’. The annual prize is sponsored by Jack and Laura Dangermond, of Esri, to commemorate the ‘Father of GIS’, who completed his PhD in UCL Geography in the early 1970s.

An additional prize, associated with UCL’s Esri Development Centre, was awarded to Dr Abhinav Mehrotra for his thesis, A framework for intelligent mobile notifications, addressing the understanding of human interactions with mobile devices

The presentations were appropriately made by Global Education Manager at Esri (USA), Dr Michael Gould, who also gave a lecture on 'Data, Software, and Services: Views from Industry and Academia'.
