Huge success for UCL Students selected for “Zusammen Across Cultures”

16 June 2022

Entries from UCL students have been selected to be displayed at the German Embassy in London as part of the German Language Competition 2022. Organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) London and the Institute of Modern Languages Research (IMLR).

Poetry Competition

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the DAAD London office and in context of the DAAD’s and the IMLR’s dedication to cultural understanding, academic exchange as well as language learning, this year’s competition focused on coming together, celebrating friendship and collaboration between people, countries and institutions beyond borders and across cultures.

A panel of members and German language professionals were tasked with choosing the entries to proceed to the final event of the German Language Competition 2022, hosted in October at the German Embassy. Among the fifteen entries chosen, three talented UCL students were selected:
-    Noémie Cadiou
-    Philip Rouse
-    Sara Karim

Call for entries could include forms such as short stories, songs, poems, videos or podcasts and comics – all in written or spoken German. Entries from our students included, but not limited to, a short prose passage by EISPS student Noémie Cadiou and a poem by BA Comparitive Literature student Sara Karim.

All selected candidates will have the opportunity to present their entries at the final event at the German Embassy in London. In addition, the general public attending the festival will vote for their ‘Publikumsliebling’ – favourite entry on display.

We are very proud of these students, who have shown great commitment and passion for literature and the German language. Congratulations!
