Neo-Latin and History of the Book

In this workshop, Gesine Manuwald will introduce you to the field of Neo-Latin studies, and Jaap Geraerts and Jacqueline Glomski will explain how the Latin language ties into their research projects, 'The Archaeology of Reading' and 'Seventeenth-Century Libraries'.

Speakers

Gesine Manuwald is Professor of Latin in UCL Greek and Latin and President of the Society for Neo-Latin Studies (SNLS). Her research interests include Roman oratory, drama and epic as well as Neo-Latin literature.

Jaap Geraerts is research associate at UCL's Centre for Editing Lives and Letters. His research interests include the religious history of the Dutch Republic, religious coexistence, and the history of reading in early modern Europe.

Jacqueline Glomski is Honorary Senior Research Associate at UCL's Centre for Editing Lives and Letters. She is a Neo-Latinist whose present research is focused on the theory and practice of book collecting, especially as regards notions of book rarity, in the seventeenth century.
