Lecturer position at DCAL 2021

Lecturer in the field of Deafness, Cognition and Language.

We seek to appoint a Lecturer in the field of Deafness, Cognition and Language.

The successful applicant will contribute to the goal of strengthening DCAL’s position as a centre of research and teaching excellence in the field. They will have a strong track record, commensurate with experience, of academic publications in the field and of obtaining research grant funding. The successful applicant will be expected to establish wide-ranging collaborations within UCL and beyond. Applicants from a broad range of relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply, including (but not limited to) psychology, linguistics, cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, psycholinguistics, sociology, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, education, interpreting, speech and language therapy, language development, language sciences, anthropology and deaf studies.

The new appointee will be expected to contribute to DCAL’s overarching research question of how sensory and language experience shapes language structure, language use, language acquisition, social interaction, identity and linguistic and cognitive processing.

The post is available from August 2021.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

The appointee must have a PhD in a relevant discipline and be fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) or another sign language. They will have excellent interpersonal skills with both deaf and hearing people. They will have an appreciation of the diversity within the deaf population and up-to-date knowledge of the issues faced by deaf people. Experience of development of specialized research-led content for undergraduate and postgraduate level degrees and CPD activities is desirable. They will also be expected to play a leading role in creating and developing public engagement activities. They will also perform the usual administrative duties of a member of academic staff.
