A close-up of a threaded homemade cardboard loom, some balls of yarn, coloured pencils and a drawing of a simplified ancient Egyptian figure

11am - 2pm: Free drop-in for all family visitors. Booking not required.

Unravel the secrets of the Tarkhan Dress, the oldest known woven garment in the world, on display in the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology.

Discover incredible facts about the Tarkhan Dress and learn how the ancient Egyptians made their clothes in this workshop led by arts educator Clare Sams. Explore ancient weaving techniques and make your own fabric using a simple cardboard frame.

At the end of the workshop, you will have your very own fabric to take away with you.

The workshop is suitable for ages 6+, but young children will need adult help. We will have colouring sheets available for younger children.

There is step-free access to the Petrie Museum via the lift in the UCL Science Library, and the majority of the Museum is accessible.
