The Philosophy of Jeremy Bentham

Jeremy Bentham was born in 1748 and trained as a barrister in London.

He quickly became disillusioned with English legal practice and devoted himself to philosophy instead.
He became internationally famous as a legal thinker and reformer and for developing the doctrine of Utilitarianism, which aimed to promote ‘the greatest happiness of the greatest number’.

His ideas remain influential to this day.
