The ACM SIGGRAPH has inducted Professor Niloy Mitra as a new member of its prestigious Academy.

The ACM SIGGRAPH Academy is an eminent group of individuals who have made significant impacts in the field of computer graphics. Professor Mitra was recognised for his pioneering technical contributions in shape analysis and structure-aware geometry processing.

His expertise and research accomplishments have solidified his position as an innovator and leader in the discipline. He also leads the Adobe Research London group focusing on developing generative technologies for 3D geometry and appearance modelling.

This latest accolade adds to Professor Mitra's list of impressive achievements. He previously received the 2013 ACM SIGGRAPH Significant New Researcher Award for his outstanding work in the discovery and utilisation of structure and function in 3D objects.

Additionally, he was honoured with the BCS Roger Needham award in 2015, the Eurographics Outstanding Technical Contributions Award in 2019, and the ERC Starting Grant on SmartGeometry in 2013. Professor Mitra's work has been highlighted in respected publications, including the Communications of the ACM, and he was elected as a Eurographics Fellow in 2021.

On receiving his esteemed membership, Professor Mitra said: “I am humbled and thrilled to be inducted into the SIGGRAPH Academy. Thanks to all my students, collaborators and colleagues who have made this journey both enjoyable and scientifically rewarding. I am eager to continue this journey and uncovering more little gems along the way.”

Head of Research Group (Virtual Environments and Computer Graphics), Professor Anthony Steed, said: "Niloy's work has consistently pushed the boundaries of computer graphics and shape analysis. This latest recognition by the ACM SIGGRAPH Academy is a testament to his exceptional contributions and underscores his influential presence in the field."

ACM SIGGRAPH, a special interest group of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), is an international community that brings together researchers, artists, developers, filmmakers, scientists, and business professionals with a shared passion for computer graphics and interactive techniques.
