New office and meeting space for UCL Computer Science at 169 Euston Road

30 September 2021

UCL Computer Science research groups, including staff and PhD students moved into the new space during August 2021

169 Euston Road

We are pleased to announce that a new space has been opened for various research staff and students in UCL CS.

The building was originally planned to open in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID restrictions.

Located next to the Quaker’s Friend’s House, the building has 7 floors and is shared with The Bartlett and Academic Services. The Bartlett’s Faculty Office occupies the 5th floor and the Exams team from Academic Services share the basement with Computer Science. Computer Science also fully occupy the ground floor and floors 1 to 4.

The building features a ground floor event and social space, tea-points, showers, meeting rooms as well as a blend of open plan desk spaces and individual/shared offices.

The Department’s main admin building remains at 66-72 Gower Street, whilst CS research teams remain based in spaces such as 3rd floor Engineering Front Building (EFB), 90 High Holborn and Here East.

Anthony Steed, Deputy HoD, led on the design of the space with Estates and the consultation with HoRGs on their space allocations. Mark Jackson, CS Facilities Manager, led on a complex moves process, mobilisation and occupancy, assisted by the CS Facilities Team, Estates and other PS colleagues.

“It is really great to see 169 Euston Road come to fruition and to see colleagues occupying and enjoying the building. It took several months of detailed planning, many Teams calls, consultation and checking of data, to build the moves schedules. Thank you to both Christina and Ashley from the Facilities Team, for their hard work in helping to deliver this complex moves project!

Mark Jackson – CS Facilities Manager

“169 Euston Road is a significant expansion of space for Computer Science. The timing was very strange, with the lease signed just before the first Covid lockdown, and occupancy taking place almost 18 months later. We’ve been able to rationalise of our space allocation so that groups are less spread out. Thanks to everyone involved in helping us plan a complex move, especially the facilities team.“

Anthony Steed, Deputy HoD
