What is the Lucy Project?

What is the Lucy Project?

The Lucy Project is a research project evaluating a psychological wellbeing drop-in service.

The original drop-in centre was situated in the reception of Great Ormond Street Hospital London where patients and families with emotional and behavioural difficulties, such as anxiety, low mood and challenging behaviour could drop-in and seek support.

We are now carrying out a national roll-out and implementation study of this model of drop in mental health care for children and young people attending paediatric hospitals and clinics across the country.

The project was shown to reduce emotional and behavioural symptoms and increase quality of life. Health economic analysis indicated good value for money and patients and families found the drop-in centre highly acceptable and reported a positive experience.

The study team won the BMJ Mental Health Team of the Year.
