Inflammation and Rheumatology

The Inflammation and Rheumatology Section aims to encourage world-class research into understanding the mechanisms and treatment of childhood onset inflammatory and autoimmune immunological diseases.

We are a group of multi-disciplinary scientists and clinical academics with an international reputation in the field of paediatric rheumatology, inflammation and autoimmunity.

In the Autoinflammation Centre of Excellence (ACE), we aim  to discover monogenic causes of autoinflammation, childhood neuroinflammation and vasculitis, design treatments to control these devastating conditions, and deliver innovative clinical trials of new treatments.

In autoimmunity we lead UK-wide networks investigating immune dysfunction that underlies pathogenesis of childhood-onset arthritis and myositis, to develop better treatments for both arthritis, through the CLUSTER-JIA Consortium and Juvenile Dermatomyositis.

We work closely with clinical colleagues at GOSH and UCLH; through our Centre of Excellence, the Centre for Adolescent Rheumatology Versus Arthritis at UCL UCLH and GOSH  we co-lead life course research in these complex conditions to improve the lives of these young people and the adults they will become.
